Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

Sir Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle
Sir Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle (22 May 1859 – 7 July 1930) was a  writer and most noted for creating the fictional detective Sherlock Holmes and writing stories about him which are generally considered milestones in the field of crime fiction.
Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle was born on 22 May 1859 at 11 Picardy Place, Edinburgh, Scotland. His father, Charles A, was English, and his mother, Mary. His parents married in 1855. In 1864 the family dispersed due to Charles's growing alcoholism.
Doyle was sent to the Jesuit preparatory school Hodder Place, Stonyhurst, at the age of nine (1868–70). He then went on to Stonyhurst College until 1875. From 1875 to 1876, he was educated at the Jesuit school Stella Matutina in Feldkirch, Austria. From 1876 to 1881, he studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh Medical School.
he set up an independent practice. Arriving in Portsmouth in June 1882 with less than £10 (£900 today) to his name, he set up a medical practice at 1 Bush Villas in Elm Grove, Southsea. The practice was initially not very successful. While waiting for patients, Doyle began writing fiction.
Doyle struggled to find a publisher for his work. His first work featuring Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson, A Study in Scarlet, was taken by Ward Lock & Co on 20 November 1886, giving Doyle £25 (£2500 today) for all rights to the story. Holmes was partially modelled on his former university teacher Joseph BellThough not the first fictional detective, Sherlock Holmes is arguably the most well-known, with Guinness World Records listing him as the "most portrayed movie character" in history. Sir Arthur wrote a total of 60 stories. There is a museum of Sherlock Holmes at 221b Baker Street, London. There were also movies and TV series based by the books.
Doyle had served as a volunteer doctor in the Langman Field Hospital at Bloemfontein between March and June 1900. Doyle believed that this publication was responsible for his being knighted as a Knight Bachelor by King Edward VII in 1902 and for his appointment as a Deputy-Lieutenant of Surrey. Also in 1900 he wrote a book, The Great Boer War.
In 1885 Doyle married Louisa (sometimes called "Touie") Hawkins, the youngest daughter of J. Hawkins, of Minsterworth, Gloucestershire, and sister of one of Doyle's patients. She suffered from tuberculosis and died on 4 July 1906. The following year he married Jean Elizabeth Leckie, whom he had first met and fallen in love with in 1897. He had maintained a platonic relationship with Jean while his first wife was still alive, out of loyalty to her. Jean died in London on 27 June 1940.
Doyle fathered five children. He had two with his first wife: Mary Louise (28 January 1889 – 12 June 1976) and Arthur Alleyne Kingsley, known as Kingsley (15 November 1892 – 28 October 1918). He had an additional three with his second wife: Denis Percy Stewart (17 March 1909 – 9 March 1955), second husband of Georgian Princess Nina Mdivani; Adrian Malcolm (19 November 1910 – 3 June 1970); and Jean Lena Annette (21 December 1912 – 18 November 1997).
Doyle was found clutching his chest in the hall of Windlesham Manor, his house in Crowborough, East Sussex, on 7 July 1930. He died of a heart attack at the age of 71.

White Cockatoo

Umbrella-CockatooThe white cockatoo (Cacatua alba), also known as the umbrella cockatoo, is a medium-sized all-white cockatoo endemic to tropical rainforest on islands of Indonesia. When surprised, it extends a large and striking head crest, which has a semicircular shape (similar to an umbrella, hence the alternative name). The undersides of the wings and tail have a pale yellow or lemon color which flashes when they fly. It is similar to other species of white cockatoo such as yellow-crested cockatoo, sulphur-crested cockatoo, and salmon-crested cockatoo, all of which have yellow, orange or pink crest feathers instead of white.
It kingdom is Animalia, phylum is Chordata, class is Aves, order is Psittaciformes, superfamily is cacatuoidea, family is Cacatuidae, subfamily is Cacatuinae, tribe is Cacatuini, genus is Cacatua, subgenus is Cacatua, species is C.alba.

Cacatua alba -Pairi Daiza, Hainaut, Belgium-8a.jpgThe white cockatoo is around 46 cm (18 in) long, and weighs about 400 g (14 oz) for small females and up to 800 g (28 oz) for big males. The male white cockatoo usually has a broader head and a bigger beak than the female. They have brown or black eyes and a dark grey beak. When mature some female white cockatoos can have reddish/brown irises, while the irises of the adult male are dark brown or black.

The feathers of the white cockatoo are mostly white. However, both upper and lower surfaces of the inner half of the trailing edge of the large wing feathers are a yellow color. The yellow color on the underside of the wings is most notable because the yellow portion of the upper surface of the feather is covered by the white of the feather immediately medial (nearer to the body) and above.

It occurs in primary, logged, and secondary forests below 900m. It also occurs in mangroves, plantations including coconut and agricultural land. In the wild, white cockatoos feed on berries, seeds, nuts, fruit and roots. When nesting, they include insects and insect larvae. In their natural habitat, umbrella cockatoos typically feed on various seeds, nuts and fruits, such as papaya, langsat, and rambutan.

Like all cockatoos, the white cockatoo nests in hollows of large trees. Its eggs are white and there are usually two in a clutch. During the incubation period – about 28 days – both the female and male incubate the eggs. The larger chick becomes dominant over the smaller chick and takes more of the food. The chicks leave the nest about 84 days after hatching and are independent in 15–18 weeks. Juveniles reach sexual maturity in 3–4 years.

Ampera Bridge

Ampera Bridge, Palembang.jpgThe Ampera Bridge is a vertical-lift bridge in the city of Palembang, Indonesia. The Ampera Bridge is the landmark of the city and use for connecting two regions of the city. It connects Seberang Ulu and Seberang Ilir that was separated by Musi River. For a few years after it was opened, the center span could be lifted at a speed of approximately 10 meters per minute to allow ships of up to 44.5m in height to pass underneath with a mechanical system and 500 tons ballast weights. However this only occurred a few times, and after 1970 it could no longer be opened. The official reason for this was that the 30 minutes needed to raise the bridge is too long for a delay. Now, only a 9 m ship that can pass under the bridge. However, according to architect Wiratman, who acted as a consultant before the construction, the design of the bridge was flawed from the outset because of the soft mud on which it was built. He maintains that his concerns were ignored for political reasons, and that as the towers' foundations shifted, the bridge deformed to the extent that it could no longer be opened. The ballast weights needed to balance the wight of the bridge were removed in 1990 to prevent possible accidents were they to fall.

It was the longest bridge in Southeast Asia in 1965.  It height is 11,5 m tall above sea level or 63 m above ground level. The distance between the two towers is 75 m. And it weight is 944 tons. The bridge was planned during the era of Indonesia's first president, who wanted a bridge that could open and be a match for London's Tower Bridge. The funds for the construction came from Japanese war reparations, with the Fuji Car Manufacturing Co. Ltd being given responsibility for design and construction. It was cost for about USD 4.500.000 at that time. However, at the time, Japan had no bridges of this type, and Fuji Car had no bridge-building experience. The official opening was carried out by Minister/Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Ahmad Yani. At first, the bridge was known as the Bung Karno Bridge, after the president. It was renamed the Ampera Bridge. Now the bridge is one of the tourists destination for photo, it has some colourful lights and look beautiful with the Musi River in the night and they also come to eat many traditional foods located near the bridge.

Experience at Megantara, SMA Negeri 3 Bandung Festival Culture

On Saturday, 10th September 2016 I went to Megantara. Megantara is an acronym for Mega and Nusantara. It is a cultural festival for everyone to enjoy. I went to Lapangan Bali at 7:30 AM to participate in the parade before the event. I wore pangsi, a traditional Sundanese clothes. There were a lot people join the parade, we went from Bali Street to Belitung Street, Sumatera Street, Merdeka Street, Jawa Street, then back to Bali Street promoting Megantara. After the parade, my friend and I went to school to change our clothes. After changing our clothes we waited for dzuhur prayer in our school before going to Megantara. After dzuhur prayer, at 12:30 AM we went to Lapangan Bali. It was the place for Megantara, then my friends and I gave our tickets and went in. We got a drink at the entrance, then we walked in. The places were divided by many sections and a large stage, the sections is named after Indonesia Islands. The places were decorated with a lot of  traditional patterns. Each section represented their traditional cultures such as traditional food. Then I went to the food stand and bought fried rice for my lunch, it tasted really good and the size is big. Then I went near the stage to watch the traditional groups performed. They were Kelompok Paduan Angklung 3 (an angklung orchestra from my school), Jaipong Dancers, Bali Dancers, and many more. Then, I bought some foods and drinks. I met a lot of my friends when I was in Junior High School. They also wanted to see the festival themselves. In the afternoon the people started to come flooding the place, around 4:00 PM. When the stage was empty, I went for ashar prayer then went back to saw the performances. There was traditional fashion show that was done by SMAN 3 grade 10 students, wearing traditional clothes from each provinces. After that, there were speech from Bandung mayor Mr. Ridwan Kamil and wayang performance. After that, my school theater performed with a cultural theme. The performance was unique and funny. Then, I did Maghrib prayer and went home by myself

Experience At World Tournament and Techno Fest (WTTF)

On Saturday, 20th August 2016 I went to the school for parcitipating in the event called "World Tournament & Techno Fest 2016" also known as WTTF. I went to Lapangan Bali wearing black t-shirt and red handband to differentiate from the other class. I met my classmate there, before 6.30 a.m.. Every student from 32019 (my year) and 32018 (senior) must join or participate in the event. This event was organized by OSIS so we can try to speak english for one day. If we spoke bahasa Indonesia we got reduction or minus in our score. At 6.30 p.m. the event started with a speech, and we were matched with our seniors (XI IPA 2). Then, we listened to the introduction of this event. In short, our galaxy has been destroyed. We must go to post or planets and play challenges or games there, if we win we will get a piece of our galaxy (puzzle piece) to restore our galaxy (complete the puzzle). There was also other things, The Aliens. If we hit them with water balloon, we took a puzzle piece from them. But, if we get hit by them, we must gave a puzzle piece to them. The aliens wore raincoat. After that, we went to SMAN 3 Bandung for clues like a map.

Our first clue from the map was to go to the historical building, so we went to the main building of SMAN 3 Bandung. In front, there is the first post/planet. The contestants must ate a plate of spicy noodles as fast as possible. Unfortunately our class lost the first post. Then, we went to XI IPA 3 in the big hallway. The contestants of this planet must played Tekken, a fighting theme video game. Each class represented by 3 persons. It was a close fight, but we lost again. Then we go to Taman Musik (Music Park) in Bali Street. In that planet we played "Ranking 2" or second rank. It was a parody of the famous TV show.  Our goal was to be the 2nd rank. 5 persons from each class must answered general knowledge. Our class won because everyone eliminated except one person from our class. After that we went to the next planet located in the indoor field in Lapangan Bali. There, 5 persons from each class played soccer game called (Pro Evolution Soccer) for 5 minute. My class lost 1-0. After that, we went to basketball field to play quiz about technology. My class representative won. In the soccer field, we played some flappy bird. I also played with some of my friends, 15 seconds each. I score 10 points, then we won the game. Then, 10 persons from each class played protect the queen. We must take the opponent scarf shaped like armbands to win. My class lost again, but we get a piece from hitting an alien. Then we walked to Tongkeng Park, for 20 minutes. There, we made a robot using trash. Our creation wasn't great but good enough to make us win. Then, we took a break to eat and pray in the mosque. After that, we go to photography park and 2 persons from each class play twister. They were told to follow the instructions. My class won this game very quickly.

After we finished, we went back to SMAN 3. I walked with some of my friends, the other used public transportation. When we arrived at SMAN 3 we were told to go to Lapangan Bali because of Alien Attack! Because time's almost up, we just need to took the pieces from the alien. We only got 1 piece. Then, we put together all the puzzle pieces. I think we cheated a little because some of the others puzzle pieces that belong to our seniors were kept by us. So they had missing pieces. So, 32019 was victorious. And there was also prizes for the best class and giveaways. It was a fun and unique experience.
